loveanyway – is that two words or three words? Both!
Love Anyway is a reminder that love isn’t always easy or natural. You should love people even when you don’t feel like it and when they don’t deserve it. Love them anyway!
Listen, all of you. Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Pray for the happiness of those who curse you; implore God’s blessing on those who hurt you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, let him slap the other too! If someone demands your coat, give him your shirt besides.
~Jesus, from Luke 6:27-29, The Living Bible
Is someone mean or hurtful to you? Love them anyway.
Does someone ignore you? Love them anyway.
Is someone uncomfortable to be around? Love them anyway.
Has someone resisted your attempts to show love to them? Love them anyway.
Has someone taken advantage of your love? Love them anyway.
The following article from Focus on the Family discusses this concept in the context of marriage:
Love Any Way
Love Any Way is a reminder that love doesn’t always look the same. There are many different ways that you can demonstrate love for someone. In any situation, look for ways to be loving. Love people any way you can!
Do not forget or neglect to do kindness and good, to be generous and distribute and contribute to the needy, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
Hebrews 13:16, The Amplified Bible
I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger, and you took me into your home. I needed clothes, and you gave me something to wear. I was sick, and you took care of me. I was in prison, and you visited me.
Matthew 25:35-36, God’s Word
Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
Proverbs 16:24 (ESV)
The goal of “Love Any Way” is to always be looking for any opportunity to show love to someone. The opportunities will vary, and the means of showing love will vary. It may be something you say; it may be something you do. The idea is, that in any way that you can, seek to demonstrate love.
People have used phrases such as “random acts of kindness” or “pay it forward” to communicate this idea of showing love to others in a variety of situations and ways. The difference with “love any way” is that we strive to live in such a way that love is not random; it’s the purposeful way we seek out opportunities to show love to others everywhere we go. It’s not in response to people or events in our life; we’re not looking for anything in return, in either a spiritual or a physical sense. We just love, because we have been called to love.
The parable of the Good Samaritan is a good example of someone going out of his way to demonstrate love to someone in a variety of ways: time commitment, medical treatment, transportation, food and clothing, and financial support.
